Additional Options

Option 1
I learned how to put a poll on my blog. It is in the top right corner. It asks the parents if their child comes home telling them that they learned something new in school everyday. This gives me a chance to survey my students parents on what their child is learning and it gives me effective feedback. The choices are
A. Everyday
B. Mostly Everyday
C. Rarely
D. Never

Option 2
I learned how to use the Event Gadget. I can use this gadget to promote an event on my classrooms blog, for example- field trips or parent-teacher night. Members of my blog can get details about the event, see a map, indicate whether they will attend, and see who else has responded. Events can be added to a members Google calendar with a single click. On my blog, I used it to inform the parents about the up coming field trip to the Bronx Zoo.

WEEK 5

WEEK 5- SHAPES AND WEATHER

*This week we will be learning about shapes and weather. The reason that I am combining these two categories is because the weather has many different shapes in it. For example, the sun is a circle and lightning strikes are zigzag lines. Each day we review the letters we have learned in the Alphabet and the numbers we have learned so the children do not forget them. This week we will also begin pen pal week in which our school will organize a pen pal for each of your children to communicate with.

Class Assignments:
- Letters of the alphabet and numbers review activity
-Pages 30-37 the Mathematics textbook
-Chapter 3 in our Language arts textbook
- we will be playing many different games and performing several different activities for the children to learn their shapes
-each day we will go outside and discuss the weather, then record it in our journals.
-I will show several YouTube video clips of weather examples to familiarize the students.

Homework Assignments:
Monday-  Begin to record the weather of each day this week in the packet given in class.
Tuesday- “Color in the shapes” worksheet
Wednesday- “Color in the weather” worksheet
Thursday- bring in 5 objects to tell the class what shape they are
Friday- HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!! :-)

Note to parents: To enhance your child’s learning experience, it would be helpful to begin telling them the weather each day at the beginning of the week. When you are leaving for school say, “today it is cloudy” or “today it is raining”. Later on in the week you should ask them the weather and they should know the basics by then. As for shapes, when you are simply eating dinner ask them what shape their dinner plate is. At any given time in the house it is helpful to pick up objects and tell them what shape it is. Also, I would like to inform you about our field trip coming up to the zoo. I will be posting the permission slip on this blog for you to send back to school with your child. Thanks! – Miss Iannelli

-the children will privately meet with me and explain their family in their own words.
-draw pictures of symbols that represent their family.
-draw their nationality flag
-group up with peers and tell a family story

The photos will come back to you in great condition, if you would please just send them in with your child in an envelope; I will then copy them on the copy machine and send them back with your child. Note to parents: hello parents! As you know, this week we are learning the days of the week and the months of the year. It would be a great help if you could assist your child at home with this topic. For example, when your child wakes up you can ask, "what day is today?" "what # day of the week is that?" "what month is it?" And if you have the time please ask them to count to 10 and sing the alphabet A-J. It will only help your child!! Thank you!

Week 2

WEEK 2- Mathematics

*We will continue learning the alphabet every week; so for this week, (week 2) we will be learning F,G,H,I,&J. We will continue the same types of activities as we did last week to learn the next 5 letters. I continue with story time every week as well. This week in class we will begin learning our numbers! We will learn #'s 1-10 this week. I will use many physical objects to teach the children numbers because over my years of teaching I have found it is most effective.

Class Assignments:
-work sheets to learn the letters F,G,H,I,&J with dotted lines for the children to practice writing before writing on their own.
-the children will learn how to write numbers 1-10.
-we will be working on chapter 1 in our mathematics book all week during class.
-we will team up with a buddy and tell a funny story that has happened in our home. ( social activity)
-I will play several math games with the children to learn their numbers; for example: I will hold up three books and say, “how many books am I holding up”?

Homework Assignments:
Monday- "The Numbers 1-5" worksheet
Tuesday- mathematics book pages 4-7
Wednesday- "The Numbers 1-10" worksheet
Thursday- letters A-J review worksheet
Friday- HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!! :-)
Note to parents: Please try to review the letters we have learned the past 2 weeks (A-J) as well as our new #’s (1-10). This will help the child connect school and home. If your child practices his/her numbers and letters when they get home, it will help them progress in an outstanding way. I appreciate your help. Meet the parent teacher night is week 4, I’m looking forward to meet everyone! J

Welcome Parents and Students! Weeek 1

Welcome Parents and Students!

I hope you enjoyed your summer and are ready for this pleasant year we have ahead of us together. Kindergarten is a form of education for young children that serves as a transition from home to the commencement of more formal schooling. I created this blog for my class because it is a way to keep the parents updated about what we are doing in the classroom, homework, upcoming events, field trips, e.c.t. It is a great tool to be aware of your child's learning experience and i hope that you use it to the best of your advantage for your child's educational benefit.

WEEK 1- LANGUAGE ARTS

*We will begin learning the alphabet this week; we will be focusing on 5 letters per week. So for this week, (week 1) we will be learning A,B,C,D,&E. The children will learn the sounds that the letters make and we will go over vocabulary words that start with these 5 letters. They will learn both upper and lowercase letters. We will also touch base on our colors this week and have the children identify the colors. I will have story time every day after lunch and then we will have a story map exercise on the board afterwards reviewing the story and the meaning/lesson of it.

*This week in class we will play several name games to familiarize the students amongst their peers. I will go over the classroom rules and requirements. We will focus on language arts and our writing skills.
Our assignments consist of:
-work sheets to learn the letters A,B,C,D,&E with dotted lines for the children to practice writing before writing on their own.
-there will be several other fun activities for the children to learn the letters of the week.
-the children will practice writing their names.
-we will be working on chapter 1 in our language arts book.

Note to parents: I will be sending home several pieces of paper this week for you to read and review with your child and sign as well and they are to be brought back to class the following day please. I ask that you help your child as much as you can with what we are learning in class, for example: review the letters of the week or help them write their name neatly.
Homework Assignments:
Monday- Parents sign Rules and Regulations sheet and send back to school with student the next day. AND "The Letters A & B" worksheet
Tuesday- color in "My Name Is....." worksheet.
Wednesday- "The Letters C & D" worksheet
